The Lady in the Flowery Top

Unfortunately she got off of the train before I had the chance to draw the flowers...

The Italian Businesswoman.

I don't know if she really was Italian but she looked very stylish and had that look about her.

Girl on the Phone

She was having to sit in the most stupid, contorted, manner because she was charging her phone in the wall. Rather than move her shopping she would rather lean right over the other two seats to be able to speak. Seat Hogs - scourge of train travel.

Blue striped collar worker

My eye was caught by this man as he had a really interesting mouth. I probably over exaggerated it a bit, but it was very full and fleshy. Sometimes people's features just cry out to be captured.

Lost in Oz

I've drawn this lady before. I recognised her by her blue umbrella and 'Love Berlin' bag.

Girl with Red Hair

This girl was sitting opposite me. She was very pretty, with the most amazing mouth, which is why I have drawn it a few times to try and capture it. She was aware of me drawing her, which made me self-conscious and ultimately I drew her looking less pretty than I should have. For once I noted the book she was reading - The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave.

Reading Bloomsbury by Quentin Bell

Usually when drawing people I forget to note the books they are reading. This time I remembered.

Well-Travelled Woman

I got on a non-express train tonight and it gave me a bit more time to do a slightly more detailed drawing. This lady was fascinating as everything she had with her had a place name emblazoned across it. She also had a lazy-eye, in case you thought my drawing was a bit off.

Finger Painting

Forgot my stylus and had to draw with my finger. This guy looks very shifty in this picture but, in reality, he seemed very friendly really.

Falling Asleep

This guys looks depressed but he has clearly had a long day and is falling asleep on the train.

Lolita Girl

A quick sketch from a photograph of a girl spotted in Edinburgh who was advertising the Confusion is Sex show.

Man with a Green Tie

Trying a new brush type on the train today.

Waiting Room at the Dental Surgery

A group of people waiting for an appointment that is both necessary and unwanted.

Fur Coat and Party Shoes

This morning on the train there were two naughty little girls dressed up in fancy clothes. They admired each others shiny shoes before spending the rest of the journey glued to the train window.

Lady with Oasis Bag

I was sneaking looks at this lady opposite me and as I drew her she became more glamorous than in real life. I liked her new look so much I decided not to correct it.

Cold Day, Grey Duffel-Coat

It was forecast to snow today but it was actually quite warm. Everybody was dressed for the bad weather, including this chap who was wearing a toasty duffel coat.

iPad Sketchbook tomfoolery

Trevor uploaded a new drawing app for me to play with. It is pretty good as it looks like a sketchbook. I drew him telling me off for dragging the metal bit of the stylus on the screen. I keep forgetting it is not like a pencil!

Train Experiment

I wanted to try and draw the whole interior of the train. The inherent problem with trains, though, is that people invariably get off. In this case, quite soon after I started drawing.

Serious Phonecall

This chap was in the studio opposite mine, deeply engrossed in his telephone call. I felt a little guilty after I drew him as he looked quite sad when he hung up.

Woman with Severe Haircut

I was so engrossed in drawing this lady that I forgot to make a note of the book she was reading.

The Man with the Crucifix Ring

I was quite fascinated by this man who had two gold rings. The one on his second finger was Jesus on the cross, wrapped around the finger. I thought he may have been reading the bible but it was actually a novel called 'Blue Blood'.

Baby it's Cold Outside

This guy came on to the train dressed for Arctic conditions.

Girl with Leopard Print Scarf

I fancied this girl for a sketch so I made a point of sitting somewhere so that I could get a good view. In the sea of dark office clothing and tracksuits she stood out like a beacon.

Penny

This is one of the first sketches I did with my new iPad and a stylus. I used the built-in camera to photograph some old wallpaper and used that as a background layer. I like to use embossed paper such as this for my oil paintings and commissions so I thought I would give it a go for my sketching too.

The drawing was done at the WASPs life drawing group at Hanson Street in Glasgow and the model is Penny.

Portrait at Wasps life class.

Fidgeting man on the train.
